Meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Salahuddin Rabbani
The Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Salahuddin Rabbani.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the High-level Conference titled “International and Regional Cooperation on Countering Terrorism and Its Financing through Illicit Drug Trafficking and Organized Crime”.
Good-neighborly relations, friendship and cooperation were the subjects of the discussion.
At the beginning of the meeting, President Emomali Rahmon stressed that regular meetings make effective contribution to further strengthening both bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
During the discussions related to security issues, special attention was paid to cooperation in the fight against terrorism, extremism, illicit drug trafficking and other forms of transnational organized crime.
In this context, the parties noted a sensitive period of the modern time, i.e. the activation of terrorist and extremist groups, including ISIS, that urges broad and comprehensive cooperation in the fight against terrorism and drug trafficking.
The discussions also revolved around the possibilities for developing trade, economic, energy and infrastructural ties, and cooperation in culture, education, science, healthcare and information. Utilization of the country’s huge hydropower potential, hydro technical institutions, free economic zones were likewise noted.
President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon noted that Tajikistan created favorable conditions for meeting the growing interest of thousands of Afghan citizens who wish to acquire education in Tajikistan in the fields of energy, healthcare, irrigation, agriculture, railway, architecture, technologies and the sciences.
