Press statement on the results of the high-level talks between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan
26.03.2026, Uzbekistan
Thank you, Mr. Shavkat Miromonovich.
Esteemed representatives of the media,
First of all, I would like to once again express my gratitude to Mr. Shavkat Miromonovich Mirziyoyev for the invitation and the warm, hospitable welcome.
It is symbolic that our meeting is taking place during the celebration of Navruz International Holiday.
I congratulate everyone present and the entire brotherly people of Uzbekistan on this bright holiday!
Navruz Muborak!
Today’s negotiations in a narrow format and within the framework of the first meeting of the Supreme Interstate Council held in an atmosphere of mutual understanding and trust.
We substantively discussed a set of issues related to strategic partnership and allied relations between our countries, including the potential for further development of these relations.
We noted the importance of continuing regular political contacts to advance the multifaceted Tajik-Uzbek interaction.
We reaffirmed our commitment to effective realization of the significant potential for bilateral cooperation.
During the negotiations, special attention was given to practical implementation of previously reached agreements in all areas.
To this date, bilateral cooperation between our countries has already have a solid legal framework.
Today, we adopted a new package of documents.
These documents will give additional impetus to the interaction of the two countries in the fields of trade, investment, energy, transport, technology development, and agriculture.
I also emphasize the significance of the documents aimed at developing ties in the areas of medicine, tourism, and culture.
Undoubtedly, the issues of further increasing trade and economic cooperation remain a key priority of our bilateral agenda.
We highly appreciated the steady growth of mutual trade.
By the end of last year, growth in trade turnover amounted to approximately 30 percent.
We welcome the accelerated adoption of the Program to Increase Mutual Trade Turnover to Two Billion Dollars by 2030. We support the proposal to reach this goal by 2028.
Investment cooperation is actively progressing.
Today, more than 400 companies with Tajik capital operate in the Republic of Uzbekistan.
This testifies to the high business activity of our entrepreneurs.
At the same time, over 130 companies with Uzbek capital operate in Tajikistan.
We look forward to the further expansion of the participation of Uzbek business circles in the implementation of joint projects in Tajikistan.
We noted the significant potential for developing bilateral cooperation in the fields of industry, energy, and agriculture.
We focused on the development of promising projects in the mining, metallurgical, mechanical engineering, light, food, and construction industries.
We particularly emphasized the need to increase the Joint Investment Company’s activities.
We reaffirmed mutual interest in developing ties at the regional level.
We noted positive shifts in creating the necessary conditions for the mutual travel of citizens of the two countries.
Last year, approximately 2.8 million citizens of Tajikistan visited neighboring Uzbekistan, including as tourists.
In turn, more than 1.1 million citizens of Uzbekistan entered Tajikistan as tourists.
We agreed to direct our efforts toward further expanding interaction in the fields of transport and logistics, as well as the implementation of digital technologies and artificial intelligence.
The implementation of all designated goals and tasks will be entrusted to the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation.
As part of the negotiations, we confirmed our intention to actively continue expanding cultural and humanitarian exchanges.
Issues of strengthening interaction in the fields of education, science, healthcare, and tourism were reviewed as well.
We also noted the importance of increasing cooperation in youth policy, sports, and mass media.
As Mr. Shavkat Miromonovich has noted, we will continue active support and provide favorable conditions for the Uzbek diaspora in Tajikistan and the Tajik diaspora in Uzbekistan to preserve and develop their native languages, culture, traditions, and customs.
We will jointly develop projects for the construction of schools and universities so that they can receive an education in their native languages.
We express our gratitude to our Uzbek friends for creating the favorable conditions for holding the Days of Culture of Tajikistan in Uzbekistan during this visit.
During the negotiations, we also discussed the international and regional agenda in detail.
We expressed serious concern over the growing tension in global politics.
We reaffirmed the affinity of our approaches to countering challenges and threats to security.
Special attention was given to issues of regional security.
We noted the importance of continuing the coordination of interaction between law enforcement agencies and special services in the fight against terrorism, extremism, and religious radicalism.
We pointed out the urgent need to strengthen cooperation in the fight against cybercrime, drug trafficking, and other manifestations of organized transnational crime.
We discussed the escalation of the military-political situation around our region.
Taking this opportunity, I would like to once again emphasize Tajikistan’s steadfast position on resolving all conflicts and contradictions exclusively through political and diplomatic means in accordance with the principles of international law and the UN Charter.
Dear friends,
We highly value the comprehensive development of strategic partnerships and allied relations between our countries.
I am convinced that through joint efforts, we will continue to strengthen Tajik-Uzbek cooperation in the spirit of friendship, good-neighborliness, and mutual support.
Undoubtedly, the decisions made within the framework of the first meeting of the Supreme Interstate Council will contribute to the effective achievement of the set goals, which serve the interests of our two brotherly peoples.
With great a pleasure I have invited the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Mr. Shavkat Miromonovich Mirziyoyev, to visit the Republic of Tajikistan.
Thank you.
